Tips for Solutions

Hi delegates! As BMUN grows nearer, I wanted to offer some advice on your solutions and what our dais expects for committee!  Before diving into the different types of business approaches we are hoping to see in committee, I wanted to take this opportunity to revisit our learning goals and expectations for research in hopes that your solutions end up addressing these key points: Does your business address at least one of the five dimensions of healthcare accessibility (availability, accessibility, affordability, accommodations, acceptability)? Is your business actually feasible? If you were to implement this in the real world, would it be able to uphold after the initial funding from the dais? What makes your business different from its competitors? What makes it unique? Is your business profitable? Please keep these learning goals in mind when forming solutions! They are key points we want you to address!  Need stepping off points to start thinking about ideas? Start ...

Procedure + Committee Flow

Hi, Delegates! I wanted to check in with you to provide some more insight to how our committee is going to work at BMUN 72. BVC will be using standard BMUN procedure, with some tweaks to better suit our end goal. Our committee will begin by opening a running Speaker’s List/Elevator Pitches (standard speaking time is 1 minute, 30 seconds) and those speeches will be followed by 2 questions by other delegates. For your Speaker's List, you will be presenting an elevator pitch on your primary business idea that you outlined in your position paper. The Speaker’s List can also be interrupted by Moderated Caucuses and Informal Caucuses that give delegates the opportunity to exchange opinions on policy, solutions, and more specific aspects of the topics at hand. In our committee, our dais plans on leaving the flow of debate up to the delegates; however, we will also be emphasizing Informal/Unmoderated Caucuses so that the delegates can collaborate, make blocs, and research their respect...

Introduction: Nadine Kei Inara

Image
Greetings delegates! I'm Nadine Kei Inara (she/her) and I'm so excited to be your vice chair for the BMUN LXXII Berkeley Venture Capital committee :) I'm currently a first-year planning to study Data Science and Economics, and I'm particularly interested in bridging socio-economic disparities through raising human capital, which ties into our topic of improving healthcare accessibility. My MUN journey has taken me to international conferences as a delegate, a chair and also led me to become a Secretary-General of my own conference, gifting me with friendships and memories I'll always cherish along the way. Aside from being a vice chair, I'm also a part of BMUN's Outreach staff this year. Apart from BMUN, I am a part of the Berkeley Indonesian Student Association, where I can contribute to creating a home away from home for my fellow Indonesians at Berkeley. I love writing songs, singing while playing instruments, and exploring new dessert places. Looking fo...

Hello, delegates! My name is Maia Hernandez (she/her), and I'll be your guys' head chair for the BMUN LXXII Berkeley Venture Capital (BVC) committee! I'm a current sophomore and a Public Health major, and I'm particularly interested in medicine and patenting. My academic interests also similarly align with our topic: improving healthcare accessibility. My MUN experience started when I was a sophomore in high school, and I've been involved with BMUN ever since then—both as a delegate and a chair. Last year, I served as a vice chair for BMUN's World Biopharmaceutical Forum (WBF), and I'm excited to have you all as my first committee as a head chair.  Outside of BMUN, I'm a part of the Philipinx American Alliance (PAA) club, AFX Dance, as well as the Undergraduate Street Medicine Outreach (USMO). Whenever I have free time, I love to go on road trips to the beach with my friends, paddleboard/surf, and make balloon animals. Thank you so much for spending your...

Welcome + Expectations!

Hi, delegates! We are so excited to welcome you to BMUN 72 and the BVC committee. In this committee, you will be learning the basics of business, collaborating with your fellow delegates, and eventually pitching your business to the dais. Our main topic addresses improving healthcare accessibility . This blog will act as our committee’s more informal avenue for discussion and communication before the conference– and we’d love to see you interact with it! The purpose of this blog is to (1) allow you to actively engage with the content of this committee and (2) give you all the opportunity to learn about other countries’ policies before the debate actually starts. You can post comments on posts that we make and write about literally anything relevant to the topics at hand! For example, if you’ve found follow-up content or research you’d like to share, would like to discuss your country’s opinion on the topic, or have other ideas in mind, this blog is the place for that! Please write fro...
